How it works
It takes just 4 steps to participate in the TD International Student GIC Program:
Step 1: Submit Your Application Online
Complete an online application to open both a TD Student Chequing Account and a TD International Student GIC. Once your application is successfully submitted and you complete the ID verification process, you will receive details about your TD Student Chequing Account and wire instructions.
Step 2: Send Wire Payment
Fund your TD Student Chequing Account by sending a wire payment (or multiple wire payments) totaling a minimum of CAD $20,635, plus any incoming wire payment fees. These funds must be received by TD within 90 days of account opening.
You can send additional wire payments of any amount to your TD Student Chequing Account until you arrive in Canada. Be sure to account for any wire transfer fees from your originating bank, exchange rates (if applicable), and the incoming wire fees outlined in the TD Service Fee Schedule.
Step 3: Fund Your TD International Student GIC
Once TD receives your wire payment(s), CAD $20,635 will be invested in a TD International Student GIC, and you will receive a confirmation document via email. Any additional funds will remain in your TD Student Chequing Account.
Step 4: Book an In-Branch Appointment for Verification & First Payout of GIC
After arriving in Canada, book an appointment at one of our 1,000+ branches to verify your identity, sign the necessary documentation, and activate your accounts.
We will then redeem the first payment amount plus any accrued interest from your GIC and deposit it into your TD Student Chequing Account. The remaining funds will be redeemed according to the GIC Payment Schedule in equal payments plus any accrued interest over the following 10 months.
