Canada's Self-Employed Persons Immigration Program

Canada’s Self-Employed Persons Program enables qualified self-employed foreign nationals with relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics to establish themselves in Canada and obtain permanent residency. This program is designed to attract individuals who can contribute significantly to Canada’s cultural or athletic landscape..

Overview

Candidates for the Self-Employed Persons Program must demonstrate the experience, intent, and capability to make a “significant contribution” to Canada’s cultural or sports sectors.

To be considered for immigration as a self-employed individual, applicants must meet both the eligibility criteria and achieve a minimum passing score based on the program’s selection factors.

While there is no specific minimum net worth requirement, applicants must show that they possess sufficient funds to settle in Canada, support their dependents, and finance their intended self-employment activities.

Eligibility Requirements for the Self-Employed Persons Program

To be eligible for assessment under the Self-Employed Persons Program, a foreign national must first meet the Government of Canada’s definition of a self-employed person.

A self-employed individual is defined as someone with relevant experience in cultural or athletic activities.

Relevant experience must include a minimum of two years of self-employment or participation at a world-class level in these fields, as outlined by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
